In the majority
of cases, these little ones have lost their parents to the ever-increasing
problem of AIDS. In the developing countries that we have concentrated our
efforts in, there is no net to catch these children when their parents die.
There are, in most cases, no homes or shelters aside from those provided
by charitable organizations that these kids can go to when this tragedy
befalls them.
There is no government program in place or any welfare system that they
can turn to for their sustenance, so they are forced to live in the streets,
surviving by any means they can. The majority of them are under the age
of ten. |
